(SNews) – The people of New Mexico have been flooding the streets in protest after the state’s Democrat governor violated their Second Amendment rights with an unconstitutional gun ban.
Patriots gathered in Old Town Albuquerque to protest against the suspension of open and concealed carry laws by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
As Slay News reported, Lujan Grisham signed an executive order last week to strip the people of Albuquerque of their God-given rights under the U.S. Constitution.
The governor issued an emergency “public health” order on Friday to suspend the open and concealed carry of firearms in the state’s largest city of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County for 30 days.
As her rationale for declaring the so-called “public health emergency,” Lujan Grisham cited the recent murder of an 11-year-old boy who was shot and killed following a road rage incident.
Lujan Grisham said she is expecting legal challenges, but added that she felt compelled to act due to rising gun crime in the city.
While taking questions at the press conference announcing the move, Lujan Grisham asked reporters to envision a “perfect world” where a ban on firearms would allow police to focus on “the real criminals.”
“No constitutional right, in my view, including my oath, is intended to be absolute,” she said.
However, Lujan Grisham failed to note that her gun ban targets law-abiding citizens and not “real criminals.”
During demonstrations over the weekend, many of the protestors openly displayed their firearms in deliberate defiance of Grisham’s decree.
Protesters proudly displayed American, Gadsden, and “Come and Take It” flags.
One woman held a sign that stated: “Gun rights are women’s rights.”
A man was holding a sign addressed to Grisham that read: “Our founding fathers warned us about you.”
Another demonstrator proclaimed, “This will not stand. We will not comply!”
An indigenous woman told the crowd, “The law doesn’t protect us!”
Another woman said, “Our rights come from God, and our privileges come from government.”
The editor-in-chief of News2Share, Ford Fischer, uploaded a video from the protest onto social media.
“One speaker at the armed rally in Albuquerque defying the gun carrying ban told the crowd that they need to go out and do this every day, or else it wouldn’t have an impact,” Fischer wrote.
“While the police didn’t enforce the order, it includes a $5000 fine for violators,” he added.
One anti-gun demonstrator wearing a face mask was in attendance at the protest.
However, rather than try to silence him, the gun activists gave the leftist a chance to speak and then attempted to refute his claims.
The move from Lujan Grisham has triggered widespread outrage across the country.
The National Association for Gun Rights filed a lawsuit against Grisham and New Mexico Department of Health Secretary Patrick Allen for their efforts to suspend gun rights.
The lawsuit was filed in the US district court for New Mexico on Saturday.
The filing asserts that the governor’s order violates the Second Amendment.
“The State must justify the Carry Prohibition by demonstrating that it is consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation,” the lawsuit states.
“But it is impossible for the State to meet this burden because there is no such historical tradition of firearms regulation in this Nation.”
According to CNN, “Throughout the suit, the plaintiffs cite a 2022 Supreme Court decision that struck down a New York gun law that restricted the right to concealed carry outside the home.”
Another lawsuit was also filed on Saturday to block Lujan Grisham’s un-American “health order.”
The lawsuit compares the suspension of open and concealed carry laws to “martial law.”
It also maintains that the move violates constitutional rights.
Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted the so-called “emergency public health order.”
DeSantis warns that Lujan Grisham is weaponizing the order to “infringe on Second Amendment rights by executive fiat.”
