(SNews) – “Woke” Starbucks has been hit with a major revolt from workers as over 1000 employees at more than 100 stores are going on strike for Red Cup Day, one of its busiest days of the year.
The strike is “in response to Starbucks’ union-busting tactics and refusal to bargain,” the union says.
The protesters are calling the strike the “Red Cup Rebellion.”
“This is the biggest coordinated national action taken by union Starbucks stores in the campaign’s history,” the union said.
Tyler Keeling, a union supporter from a Starbucks in California said: “From short staffing and labor cuts to Starbucks and their representatives barging out from bargaining sessions, we’re demanding that Starbucks act in good faith like they claim, and cease their anti-union campaign against us workers.
“We’ve chosen to strike today, on Red Cup Day, intentionally.
“We want everyone, including Starbucks, to know that we know our rights and are acting within the law, and we want the contract that we are legally entitled to.
“We’re ready to bargain when they are.”
Barista Josie Serrano said:
“It’s honestly one of those days that a lot of baristas try to ask for off because it’s always always a very insane day.
“I feel like the movement has been very fun.
“It’s been very positive.
“And we just really want to be able to share that with our supporters like this is this is a party.”
Bernie Sanders said:
“I’m proud to stand with Starbucks workers on strike today across the country.
“CEO Howard Schultz is illegally union-busting and firing workers for organizing.
“Mr. Schultz, it is time to recognize the stores that unionized and negotiate with workers in good faith. #RedCupRebellion”
