(Big League Politics) – On April 11, 2021, Texas Governor Greg Abbott criticized President Joe Biden’s policies in response to the increase of unaccompanied migrant children at the Southern border.
“This problem will continue to get worse because of the policies that have been adopted by the Biden administration,” Abbott said during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”
“What the president could do is to immediately put back in place the ‘remain in Mexico’ protocols that were established in the prior administration. He could continue to build the wall along the border in South Texas. He could send a stronger message that these people should not be coming here,” Abbott continued.
Biden got off to a rocky start rescinding a number of sensible policies that Trump implemented during his term in office. One of those policies was the “remain in Mexico” program that compels migrants to stay in their home countries while their asylum cases are processed in the courts.
The Texas Governor has insisted that the Democratic Party’s political platform throughout the 2020 election cycle sent a clear message about an open US border, which has led many migrants from Mexico down to Central America to make a dangerous trek to the states on the Democrats’ assurances alone.
“Remember this, and that is one of the reasons why there are so my people coming here, is if you go back to the Democrat presidential debates, every single one of the Democrat candidates said if they are elected, they will have open borders and they will be giving things for free to anybody coming across the board,” the Republican governor declared.
“This is exactly why we’re seeing the flood, and the Biden administration was simply unprepared … which is why they have so haphazardly responded to it,” Abbott continued.
According to recent numbers from the US Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol officers encountered more than 172,000 people attempting to enter the US illegally in March. Mark Moore of The New York Post noted that these numbers represented “a 71 percent increase over February.”
The federal agency also said agents encountered 18,890 unaccompanied children from Central America, doubling February’s number of 9,297 minors.
Previously, BLP reported on the Republican Party voter base and its strong emphasis on stopping illegal immigration. Now that an immigration crisis is unfolding, immigration will continue to be a hot button issue.
To preserve the Republic, the Republican Party must take a strong stand on mass migration and secure borders. Republican leaders should be putting forward decisive measures to contain both legal and illegal immigration to show the American people their sovereignty actually matters.
