(SNews) – Actor Ben Savage, best known for his performance of Corey Matthews on the hit ABC series “Boy Meets World,” filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run against California Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff for his House seat.
Federal Election Commission forms show Savage, a Democrat, is preparing to make a run for California’s 30th Congressional District which Schiff has held since 2001. Schiff has not suggested he will retire from that seat setting up a head-to-head contest in the Dem primary.
Savage is the younger brother of actor Fred Savage, who starred in ABC’s “The Wonder Years.” He ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the city council in West Hollywood. He interned for ex-Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania while studying political science at Stanford University in 2003.
Schiff may avoid a nasty primary fight for his seat by running for Diane Feinstein’s Senate seat. Rumors are floating that Schiff is eyeing that seat but he will have competition.
Democrat Rep. Katie Porter said she will run for Feinstein’s seat. She said:
“California needs a warrior in the Senate—to stand up to special interests, fight the dangerous imbalance in our economy, and hold so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell accountable for rigging our democracy.
“Today, I’m proud to announce my candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2024.
“We’re living through a time of extraordinary change. I’m Katie Porter. Change can be electrifying and exhilarating, but change can also be disruptive — like the constant assault on our democracy and the dangerous imbalance in our economy.
“The threat from so-called leaders like Mitch McConnell has to often made the United States Senate the place where rights get revoked, special interests get rewarded, and our democracy gets rigged, especially in times like these,” she said.
“I don’t do Congress the way others often do.
“I use whatever power I have to speak hard truths to the powers that be.”
According to Politico, Dem Rep Barbara Lee plans to run for Feinstein’s seat too:
Rep. Barbara Lee has told her fellow lawmakers she’s running for Senate in California, according to two sources familiar with the situation.
She informed her colleagues in a closed-door Congressional Black Caucus meeting on Wednesday.
Asked later Wednesday about her plans, Lee said in a brief interview she’d officially announce “when it’s appropriate.”
“Right now, in respect to [Sen.] Dianne Feinstein and the floods and what I’m doing, I’m doing my work. And we’ll let them know when I intend to go to the next step. But now’s the time not to talk about that,” she said.
