(Slay News) – Amber Heard has broken her silence to reveal she’s “humiliated” after being found liable for defaming Johnny Depp and ordered to pay the Pirates of the Caribbean star $15 million in damages.
She issued a statement but she gave up the game when she made the astounding claim that the jury’s verdict was a “setback” for “women.”
“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” she said.
“I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.
“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women.
“It is a setback,” Heard added.
“It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated.
“It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.
“I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the U.K.
“I’m sad I lost this case.
“But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American — to speak freely and openly.”

The jury found that Heard defamed Depp in three separate statements in The Washington Post piece, and that Depp defamed Heard with one statement his attorney made.
The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages.
The jury awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages and no money for punitive damages.
Depp sought $50 million in damages and Heard sought $100 million.
Punitive damages in the state of Virginia are capped at $350,000, so the judge reduced the punitive damages award to that amount.
