(big League Politics) – Democrats are seeking to remove Arizona Representative Paul Gosar from the House Oversight Committee, citing little more than a comedic video the congressman shared on his personal Twitter account.
The video features an animated portrayal of Gosar combating Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with a sword. Democrats have claimed the video is equivalent to a serious threat of violence, whereas Gosar has indicated it’s simply political tongue-and-cheek humor. The video is no longer hosted on Gosar’s Twitter account.
Gosar has clarified the animated video wasn’t intended to convey a message of violence, and was instead meant as a metaphorical message on what he likened to the battle for the soul of America. Representative Ocasio-Cortez has proven intolerant of criticism, having demanded that her supporters act as online hall monitors after being caught in a lie regarding supposed imminent threats to her life during the January 6th riot and protest.
The House is primed to vote on a motion to censure Gosar and remove him from the Committee, on which he serves with Ocasio-Cortez. It only takes a simple majority to censure a member of the House. Gosar serves on another committee, the House Natural Resources Committee, and it doesn’t appear the Democrats are attempting to strip him of that membership.
Gosar predicted that notorious RINOs Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney would in fact vote for the censure motion, while he expects House Republican leadership will move to table the motion.
With gas prices higher than ever, sky-high inflation, and governmental misconduct and abuses rife within President Joe Biden’s administration, House Democrats appear to have no greater priority than pointless punitive measures against Republican members of Congress for sharing off-color memes and videos.
