(The Post Millennial) – North Korean escapee Yeonmi Park detailed her family’s journey to Jordan Peterson on his podcast several weeks ago. People in the West may see Kim Jong Un’s recent declaration of K-Pop as a “vicious cancer” that deserves “work camp execution” as comical. But people like Park had to live there.
Yet the shoe might be on America’s foot with this one.
Park told Fox News in an interview that comparisons can be drawn between our Ivy League universities and her home country.
It’s a declaration that causes reason to doubt a recent survey from Pew Research that claims America’s international reputation is on the rebound.
I saw leftists teasing on the Asian mom who survived #CulturalRevolution opposing #CRT, they worship communism. “Even #NorthKorea is not this nuts," Park said. "North Korea was pretty crazy, but not this crazy."https://t.co/S5unGGkMEn pic.twitter.com/IhrC7Es1S8

Park observed upon arrival to Columbia University via transfer from South Korea, circa 2016: “I expected that I was paying this fortune, all this time and energy, to learn how to think. But they are forcing you to think the way they want you to think. I realized, wow, this is insane. I thought America was different but I saw so many similarities to what I saw in North Korea that I started worrying.”
She described being rebuked by university staff because she liked reading Jane Austen. Even back in 2016, it was commonplace for people like Columbia University’s employees to say the likes of Jane Austen had “colonial mindsets” and are alleged “racists and bigots” who are “subconsciously brainwashing” minds.
Other observations from the outside looking into America’s chaotic state of affairs: Park found it surprising that leftist Americans hated their own country so much, and being forced to use “preferred pronouns” is especially daunting for a newcomer to the English language in the first place.
It was just last week that a mother who grew up in Mao’s China warned the Loudon County, Virginia, school board about what’s happening in America now as being comparable to that.
When it comes to what’s happening in the USA right now, the Biden administration targeted the United States military with an ideological “LGBTQ” politically correct overhaul. On the other end of that, the past several months has allowed a similar zeal to permeate places of education.
The mission of the political pushers in this department is to install “Critical Race Theory” (CRT) lesson plans throughout schools nationwide.
By that meaning, they intend to segregate students by their racial identity. Parents have protested this propaganda push.
In the meantime, in the eyes of observers like Yeonmi Park, America’s political insanity is in competition with the North Korean norms:
“In North Korea I literally believed that my Dear Leader [Kim Jong-un] was starving. He’s the fattest guy – how can anyone believe that? And then somebody showed me a photo and said ‘Look at him, he’s the fattest guy. Other people are all thin.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, why did I not notice that he was fat?’ Because I never learned how to think critically. That is what is happening in America. People see things but they’ve just completely lost the ability to think critically.”
