Several House lawmakers find themselves confined within the U.S. Capitol tonight amidst turbulent protests outside the DNC headquarters. U.S. Capitol Police, equipped in riot gear, are contending with aggressive demonstrators expressing pro-Hamas sentiments and anti-war stances. Multiple arrests have been reported.
“My husband, newborn, and I are in my office in the Capitol — which just went into lockdown because of these uncontrolled protestors. I bet you won’t hear a word about this from the media,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) wrote on Twitter.
From the Associated Press: “Police said some members of Congress had been evacuated from the area, but provided no additional details. Officials sent an alert to congressional staffers telling them no one would be permitted to enter or exit any House office buildings.”
