In preparation for an approaching thunderstorm on Tuesday evening, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) has made arrangements to relocate nearly 2,000 individuals who have crossed the border and entered the country illegally from Floyd Bennett Field to a gymnasium in a high school in Brooklyn. Consequently, this decision has led to the displacement of students, who will now have to attend virtual classes.
Mayor Adams made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that the border crossers and illegal aliens would be transferred from Floyd Bennett Field, their previous temporary residence, to the gymnasium at James Madison High School, located in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn.
In light of this development, the school’s staff members were instructed to gather their important belongings from their classrooms and offices before leaving the campus on Tuesday.
As a result, Jodie Cohen, the Principal of James Madison High School, informed parents, students, and faculty members that virtual learning would be implemented on Wednesday to accommodate the presence of the border crossers and illegal aliens, as the gymnasium had been converted into a shelter for migrants.

“I am writing with an update regarding the activation of James Madison High School as a temporary overnight respite center due to the forecast of potential high winds and flooding conditions beginning this evening through tomorrow morning,” Cohen wrote in a letter posted to the school’s website.:
“To ensure a smooth transition for families temporarily sheltering overnight in the building, our school building will be closed on Wednesday, January 10 and school will be in session remotely for all students. Students should plan to log on and participate in their classes from home. The following PSAL Games are still on: Boys Basketball, Boys Swimming, and Boys Table Tennis. All practices have been cancelled.”
BREAKING: Buses are now pulling up to @JMHSBklyn and dropping off illegals. School is closed tomorrow because illegals will be sleeping in the school’s gym. This is disgraceful! NYC is prioritizing illegals over Americans. pic.twitter.com/2jmKXfRTHX https://t.co/ViZiWlqTX5

Thomas Sullivan, a Republican candidate for the New York State Assembly, asserted that Adams’ action provides additional evidence of the city’s unmanageable migrant crisis.

Likewise, New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov posted on Facebook that “students are being punished and forced to bear the brunt of the migrant crisis perpetrated by [Joe Biden].”
“They were dismissed early today and are full remote tomorrow because migrants from Floyd Bennett are at the school tonight to weather the storm. [Eric Adams]. This is unacceptable! Stop this now and take the migrants into Gracie Mansion!”
Since the onset of spring in 2022, a staggering number of approximately 200,000 individuals who have crossed the border and entered New York City unlawfully have been recorded. The extensive immigration plan implemented by the Biden administration is projected to impose a substantial financial burden amounting to billions of dollars on the residents of New York.
