Residents FURIOUS Over $13M Tax Bill for Illegal Migrants’ ‘Taj Mahal’

Maine residents are voicing their anger regarding the state’s decision to allocate $13 million towards building apartment complexes for illegal border crossers, potentially providing them with up to two years of rent-free accommodation. The proposed apartment complex, mockingly referred to as the “Taj Mahal” for undocumented individuals, faced strong criticism from Brunswick residents during a city council meeting on February 20. Locals expressed their frustration over the prospect of illegal immigrants receiving the same apartments that typically rent for $1,800 to $2,300 per month, free of charge.

“You have all these houses being built. That’s discrimination, in my eyes,” Maine resident George Bernier said, according to the Daily Mail. “Am I too white? Is that what it is? Do I work too much? What’s the discrimination factor?”

“How can we give housing to anyone other than our Brunswick residents first?” he indignantly asked.

Resident Lisa Trombley expressed her concern that the state is failing to address the needs of taxpayers while showing favoritism towards undocumented immigrants.

“You need to take a look at the needs of our current residents,” Trombley said. “If we don’t have a plan to take care of the residents, we shouldn’t be inviting them to come. No matter where they are coming from, we can’t afford to do it.”

A number of the recently constructed structures were finalized in 2023, with the first occupants moving in during December. The initial funding for this endeavor was provided by a program worth six million dollars, which was initiated by MaineHousing, the state housing authority.

The proposal also caught the notice of Donald Trump Jr., who vehemently criticized it during his father’s campaign.

“Up in this part of the world and up in Maine, they are giving illegal immigrants free housing — multimillion-dollar free housing — while they’re kicking out veterans in the street,” he said in a news clip shared by the conservative Maine Wire. “I mean, what’s going on?”
