House Speaker Mike Johnson has made a significant forecast in anticipation of the upcoming presidential election in November. In an interview with the Lehigh Valley News, the Republican Speaker confidently predicted that the House would remain under Republican control, and furthermore, the Senate and White House would be reclaimed by the GOP.
“We’re going to flip some seats back to Republican hands, and this one will be as well. We are really excited about Ryan’s campaign,” Johnson said, giving Mackenzie a light punch in the arm. “We can’t wait to have him join us in Congress.”
Johnson’s remarks were made following Trump’s recent conviction on charges that legal experts from both sides have labeled as 34 fabricated felonies linked to a hush money payment to a porn star before his 2016 election win. Subsequently, his campaign experienced a significant increase in fundraising. The Trump campaign has reportedly amassed over $200 million in donations, with nearly $53 million raised immediately after the verdict. This financial boost includes contributions from Republican megadonor Miriam Adelson, who plans to invest tens of millions in a pro-Trump SuperPAC after evaluating other primary candidates.
In 2020, the late Sheldon Adelson and his wife were the top donors to the Preserve America PAC, contributing over $90 million to support Trump’s campaign. According to Politico, Adelson intends to contribute over $100 million to Trump’s campaign once again. With an estimated net worth of $33.3 billion, Adelson is the principal shareholder of Las Vegas Sands and a majority stakeholder in the Dallas Mavericks. Following his conviction, the Trump campaign raised over $50 million in a matter of hours, surpassing President Biden’s total fundraising for the entire month of May.
Additionally, prominent SiriusXM podcaster Megyn Kelly criticized Democratic prosecutors, politicians, and supporters who backed Trump’s prosecution and conviction, suggesting that GOP prosecutors should now target top Democratic figures as well.
“This whole scheme, and here it is the proper word, is corrupt. It’s a before and after moment for America. What just happened today is a line we can’t uncross, and these Democrats will rue the day they decided to use lawfare to stop a presidential candidate,” she said (see video below).
“I’m not talking about violence; I’m talking about tit for tat. You just wait, and it won’t be Hunter Biden next time; it’s going to be Joe Biden. It could potentially still be Barack Obama. It could still potentially be Hillary Clinton. We’re going to have to look at what the statutes of limitations are on the various crimes they surely committed,” Kelly predicted.
“We’re going to have to look at passing laws to revive those dead crimes, felonies, or misdemeanors so that those cases can be brought out of time. That’s what may be in the interest of justice, just like they did for E.J. Carroll with the New York State law that was passed so that she could sue him. That’s what happened,” she said. “Turnabout is fair play. And John Yoo, an amazing lawyer who worked in the Bush administration Department of Justice, has a great piece out today talking about how that’s the only way they’ll learn.”
“I’m sorry, but the Democrats started this game. In the same way, the Republicans upped the ante when it came to, for example, the filibuster fight. The Democrats got rid of it for lower court judges. Mitch McConnell said you will rue the day because we’re going to be in control of this chamber one day, and you’re going to lose the filibuster at the higher-level court, and you’ll be sorry. That’s what needs to happen here,” she continued.
“Who’s getting indicted next? Joe Biden? Maybe Jill Biden? How low can we go? You may not want to see it, but that ship has already left port. That horse has left the barn. That’s where we’re going,” she said. “So before you celebrate too much over at MSNBC and CNN, who are positively gleeful over this absurd conviction, you wait and ask yourself, ask yourself what kind of Pandora’s box has been opened here?”
