(SNews) – Vice President Kamala Harris has tried to downplay concerns about Joe Biden’s viability for the job by assuring the American people that the Democrat president “is very much alive.”
Harris made the comments during a recent interview with 60 Minutes reporter Bill Whitaker.
The VP was asked about her willingness to step up in the event that Biden is unable to run for re-election in 2024.
Harris sidestepped the question, however, and refused to give a real answer as to whether she would be able or willing to replace Biden.
“We were talking to some Democratic donors, and they have told us that should something befall President Biden, and he is not able to run, that there would be a free-for-all for who would run as president,” Whitaker asked Harris.
“You are in the spot that that would be a natural for you to step up.
“But we are hearing from donors that they would not naturally fall into line… Why is that?” he asked.
After uncomfortably glancing around the room, Harris produced some words.
“Well, first of all, I’m not gonna engage in that hypothetical, because Joe Biden is very much alive, and running for re-election,” Harris responded.
“So there we are,” she added.
While she answered, Harris showed a smile, seemingly holding back one of her infamous cackles.
Harris goes on to say that she “does not have space in her head for parlor games,” before she apparently runs out of script and falls silent.

After the exchange triggered an awkward silence, Whitaker attempted to ask Harris about why the current administration is running neck and neck with President Donald Trump in the 2024 polling.
He prodded Harris about why Trump is so popular while he is facing politically motivated criminal counts across the country.
“I’m not a political pundit, so I’m not gonna speak to that,” the Vice President of the United States responded.
“But what I will say is this: When the American people are able to take a close look at election time on their options, I think the choice is gonna be clear. …
“We’re gonna win,” she asserted.
“And I’m not saying it’s gonna be easy.
“But we will win. I have no doubt,” the Democrat declared.
Harris also blamed a lack of media coverage of the administration’s claimed achievements as the reason for the low polling, a common talking point from Biden’s White House.
“Do you have that relationship with President Biden?” Whitaker asked.
“I do, I do,” Harris insisted.
“And I take that responsibility quite seriously.”
