The recent findings of a Monmouth University poll have shed light on the country’s least popular political figure, and it is undoubtedly a source of satisfaction for former President Donald Trump.
According to the poll, all members of Congress received negative ratings. However, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) garnered the approval of only 6 percent of respondents. This outcome is not surprising considering that Democrats do not hold him in high regard, and he has also lost favor among many Republicans who are supporters of Trump.
The poll revealed that McConnell’s disapproval rating stands at a staggering 60 percent, with 34 percent of respondents expressing no opinion. This information was reported by Fox News.
Fox added: “McConnell was the only congressional leader with a net negative approval rating from within his own party, and fell far behind his Democrat and Republican colleagues on how they are viewed by the American public. Just 10% of Republicans said they approved of McConnell’s job performance, with 41% disapproving and 49% having no opinion. Overall, just 17% said they approved of Congress’ job performance, and 77% said they disapproved.”
Following the 2020 election and the riot at the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021, Trump and McConnell experienced a significant rift, with the latter holding the former responsible for the incident. Trump, earlier this year, labeled McConnell as “a disaster” and emphasized that he does not represent the Republican Party.
“We do have to do something about Mitch McConnell,” Trump said. “He’s a disaster. He gets his 10 guys, and they give [President Joe] Biden whatever they want. There’s something going on. That doesn’t make sense. They get whatever they want.”
“We got to get him the hell out,” he added. “He’s a problem, big problem. In the meantime, I hope he’s feeling well, but he’s a big problem.”
The dispute between McConnell and Trump arose while House Republicans are taking steps to erase Trump’s two impeachments from the official records.
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik of New York and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia are actively working towards eliminating Trump’s impeachments. If successful, this endeavor will nullify the previous charges and filings against him.
Stefanik’s resolution aims to revoke Trump’s impeachment concerning the events of January 6. She asserts that the evidence and circumstances presented by House Democrats failed to meet the required burden of proof for Trump’s alleged “high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” Furthermore, she argues that the impeachment did not establish Trump’s involvement in an “insurrection or rebellion against the United States.”
“The American people know Democrats weaponized the power of impeachment against President Donald Trump to advance their own extreme political agenda,” Stefanik noted in a press release.
“From the beginning of this sham process, I stood up against Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff’s blatant attempt to shred the Constitution as House Democrats ignored the Constitution and failed to follow the legislative process,” she noted further. “President Donald Trump was rightfully acquitted, and it is past time to expunge Democrats’ sham smear against not only President Trump’s name but against millions of patriots across the country.”
In the meantime, Greene’s proposal aims to erase Trump’s impeachment in 2019 regarding his conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Democrats, based on the testimony of a supposed whistleblower, asserted that Trump unlawfully withheld financial assistance to the nation in return for a pledge from Zelenskyy to investigate alleged unlawful business dealings involving Joe and Hunter Biden.
She claims that he “was wrongfully accused of misconduct, demonstrated by the information revealed in the FBI informant document that alleges Joe Biden took a $5 million bribe. The resolution asserts the articles of impeachment did not meet the burden of proof of ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanors,’” Breitbart noted further.
“The Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff, weaponized a perfect phone call with Ukraine to interfere with the 2020 election,” Greene said. “Meanwhile, the FBI had credible evidence of Joe and Hunter Biden’s corrupt dealings, confirming their involvement in a foreign bribery pay-to-play scheme and receipt of over $5 million each.”
