President Joe Biden has expressed his support for a bill introduced by Senators James Lankford, Chris Murphy, and Kyrsten Sinema. According to Biden, this bill serves as a preliminary step towards implementing amnesty for millions of undocumented immigrants.
In his address at the White House, Biden commended the Senate bill, which aims to expand immigration to the United States by formalizing his parole pipeline that has allowed numerous border crossers to enter the country. Additionally, the bill seeks to increase legal immigration to the U.S., despite the fact that Biden’s policies have already contributed to a record-breaking foreign-born population of nearly 50 million in American history.
Biden implied that the legislation, nonetheless, serves as a preliminary measure towards the ultimate objective of Democrats and the business lobby: granting amnesty to the majority of the 11 to 22 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States.
“[The bill] doesn’t address everything I wanted. For example, we still need to pass documentation for people that are already here,” Biden said. “And we’re not walking away from true immigration reform including permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship for young DREAMers who came here when they were children and have been good citizens and contributed so much to our country.”
Biden said Congress ought “to pass this bill and get it to my desk immediately.”
For years, Democrats and corporate special interests associated with Wall Street have been pushing for the passage of an amnesty program for millions of undocumented immigrants in Congress.
According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), implementing such an amnesty would result in a surplus of foreign workers entering the workforce, leading to a decrease in wages for the working and middle class in America. Additionally, businesses would benefit from reduced costs.
“Immigration has exerted downward pressure on the wages of relatively low-skilled workers who are already in the country, regardless of their birthplace,” the CBO found in 2020.
Similarly, the implementation of an amnesty policy would result in an increase in the demand for housing, thereby exacerbating the already inflated home prices that working and middle-class Americans struggle with due to exorbitant interest rates.
According to a study conducted in 2013 by the New American Economy, which is supported by Michael Bloomberg, the influx of millions of immigrants over several decades has contributed to a staggering $3.7 trillion surge in housing expenses for future homebuyers. However, the study misleadingly portrays this substantial increase as the generation of “housing wealth.”
