During a heated exchange on CNN, Republican Florida Representative Byron Donalds and host Kate Bolduan clashed over the differential treatment of former President Donald Trump and the Biden family within the legal system.
In a recent case led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts. The charges revolved around accusations that the former president had falsified business records to conceal a $130,000 payment made to former adult film star Stormy Daniels. Prosecutors argued that this cover-up, along with an alleged affair with Daniels, was an attempt to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. Donalds contended that there exists a double standard within the justice system when it comes to Trump and the alleged crimes committed by President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
“The litmus test is not for protecting Republicans, it’s for protecting our Constitution,” Donalds told Bolduan. “It’s for actually protecting the institutions of our country. You know, I’m sick and tired too of being lectured by Joe Biden and everybody on the radical left saying they’re trying to save democracy. No, you’re not. Not when you twist the law into legal pretzels just to get a conviction. Not when you are constantly, veraciously investigating the same man over and over and over again simply because you don’t like his tweets, or you don’t like his manners or his mannerisms. This goes all the way back to 2015, 2016 when they were spying on his campaign. When the FISA process was abused to go after a political rival back then.”
“Once you go down that line, you actually destroy America,” the congressman continued. “And that’s where Joe Biden and the radical left are taking us, and it is disgraceful to see it happening in our country.”
